Relationship: Matt Murdock & Franklin "Foggy" Nelson

Author’s Summary: Matt has a whole pile of issues. Foggy puts a few to rest just by being himself.
Reason I Love this Fic: This fic is just amazing! It is by far my favorite in this four-part series. I love how the descriptions of each character’s hands speak so much to those characters and their influence, whether positive or negative, on Matt. The characterization in this piece is excellent. The author captures the voices of the characters perfectly. I am a big sucker for college era Matt & Foggy and it is in prime form here.

Title: An Act of Abandonment
Rating: General Audiences
Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Category: Gen
Fandoms: Daredevil (TV), Marvel Cinematic Universe
Relationship: Matt Murdock & Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
Characters: Matt Murdock, Jonathan "Jack" Murdock, Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, Stick - Character
Additional Tags: Child Abuse, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Abandonment Issues, Self-Worth Issues, Catholicism, Touch-Starved, Matt needs a hug, Self Confidence Issues
Author’s Summary: It smells like mildew and sawdust, like the musty rodent scent caught up in the walls. Matt can taste the dust on his tongue when he moves through certain rooms, thick layers long undisturbed, and he knows that the floors are scratched, deep and ugly, from the way the irregularities feel beneath the soles of his shoes. The distant rattle of construction penetrates here, constant and invasive – the sound of a city reborn from the ashes.
But for all its flaws, the office is theirs. Matt's willing to overlook a lot, for that.
Reason I Love this Fic: This fic is so wonderfully sad. The first two chapters deal with the losses young Matt suffers. The second two detour into the wonderfulness of college-era Matt & Foggy and all the healing Matt does as a result of Foggy’s friendship. The fifth and final chapter brings us to the devastating loss of Foggy Matt suffers towards the end of season 1. Again, Asidian’s characterization is excellent, particularly their college-era Matt & Foggy.

Author’s Summary: The refrigerator contains two bottles of beer, one bottle of water, two eggs, and a sample-sized jar of jam. Matt drinks the beer and the water, and that first night he stands propped against the stove, barely upright, to fry the eggs. Gas and cooking oil permeate the apartment, then the savory scent of scrambled eggs when they hit the metal surface with a hiss.
He leans against the counter when they're finished – eats them there in the kitchen, from the pan, with a spoon.
Then he scrubs the dish in scalding water, scrubs and scrubs with the cheap sponge that feels like raw asphalt on one side. He keeps going for a long time, long after it's clean, until his fingers sting like they're going to blister.
This, Matt tells himself, is why he doesn't cook. His apartment will smell like eggs for a week, eggs layered under the blood.
Reason I Love this Fic: While this installment is my least-favorite in this four-part series, it is still excellently written. A great look at what might have happened between Matt and Foggy’s break-up in Nelson v Murdock and their reconciliation. Excellent characterization as always.

Relationship: Matt Murdock & Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
Characters: Matt Murdock, Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, Karen Page, Stick - Character
Additional Tags: Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Abandonment Issues, Self-Worth Issues, Self Confidence Issues, Matt needs a hug
Author’s Summary: He doesn't want to say what he's about to say, and he knows damn well Matt won't want to answer. But it's the first time in two days they've been together somewhere private, and Foggy needs to be sure.
"So, Wednesday," he says, trying for a conversational tone. "That was Stick, huh?" Matt freezes with the spoon halfway to his lips – tips his head, like he's waiting for the rest. "He always been that way?"
The light outside the apartment window shifts, orange to white, and picks out the lines of Matt's face in backlit detail. The expression there is strained – trying but failing not to give too much away.
Reason I Love this Fic: This is a great finale to a wonderful series. This is all Matt & Foggy just…reestablishing post season 1. This is the only installment told from Foggy’s POV and it's an excellent change in perspective. I cannot say enough about Asidian’s characterization. Matt and Foggy are so true to character.
